Medical Records Technician

Medical Records Technician is responsible for maintaining the patient charts through our Electronic Medical Records software.  The individual demonstrated knowledge in the areas related to accessing and viewing a patient’s electronic chart, faxing, scanning, working with our storage facility and other general office procedures.  Any or all of these functions could be part of the duties of this individual.  This individual has the ability to function independently and cooperatively with other staff members.  This individual maintains professional and effective working relationships with all members of the health team.  This individual has the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patients served.



Employees in this position are required to proficiently perform any combination of the duties and responsibilities outlined below.

  • Process medical records request received from attorneys, patients, insurance companies, physicians, clinics, and hospitals.
  • Distribute e-faxes, stat faxes, and EMR documents to staff members.
  • Requests charts from storage by submitting orders to storage company.
  • Place surgical notes in EMR system.
  • Scan documents and upload in EMR system.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, read and respond to emails.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:High School Diploma

Work Experience: No prior healthcare experience is required

  • Ability to communicate and work well with people

JOB DEMANDS (Physical)

Requires sitting for long periods of time working in an office environment. Some bending, stooping and stretching required. Working under stress and use of telephone required.  Working under deadlines. Manual dexterity required. Must have adequate hearing and speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others, including patients and co-workers.  The noise level in the work environment can range from low to moderate conversations. This position must be able to deal with aggressive, hostile and sometimes irrational behavior patients and family members and have the ability to respond to all patients in a calm and professional manner.
